Self-Myofascial Release (Foam Roll)

Foam rolling is another type of stretching technique that focuses on the fibrous tissue that surrounds and separates muscle tissue. By applying gentle force to an adhesion or “knot”, one is able to alter the position of the adhesion into a straighter alignment with the direction of the muscle.

When foam rolling, one must find a tender spot, and sustain pressure for 20-30 seconds. Frequency of foam rolling depends on individuals fitness needs and ability to consciously relax while doing this activity.

Foam rolling techniques can be used as a warm-up or during the cool-down process.
